The Dutch Foundation for Literature is the public fund for literature in Dutch, Frisian, Papiamentu and Dutch Sign Language. The Foundation supports writers, translators, publishers and literary organisations, thereby promoting the quality, diversity and visibility of Dutch literature both in the Netherlands and abroad.

Grant applications submitted to the Dutch Foundation for Literature are assessed by independent advisors. These are experts from the cultural sector with expertise in areas such as literature, language, translation and reading promotion, as well as governance, communication strategy, AI and finance. Advisors assess grant applications independently, carefully and with professional expertise. The advisors currently working for the fund also work, for example, as writers, literary scholars, translators, journalists or creative strategists. As an advisor to the Foundation, you help determine which new (translated) literary works will be published and which literary projects or festivals will receive support. You assess books and/or project proposals according to established criteria and write reports on your findings.

All applications and assessments are discussed with fellow advisors during meetings facilitated by the Foundation’s grant specialists. For some grant schemes, attending meetings is not required, and advisors provide individual written recommendations instead.

You will receive compensation for your work in accordance with the Foundation’s fee regulations, as well as a preparation allowance for each meeting. Advisors are appointed for a minimum of two years and a maximum of four years and become members of the Dutch Foundation for Literature’s Advisory Council.

For the Caribe Literature scheme, we are seeking experts who can assess project applications submitted by creators and organisations from the Caribbean part of the Kingdom.

Applications are assessed on the quality of the project plan, its added value for the islands, and the applicant’s profile. Consideration is also given to audience engagement strategies and the qualifications and experience of editors, curators and collaborative partners involved.

We are looking for advisors who have an affinity with Caribbean literature, are familiar with the Caribbean region and understand the context and circumstances on the islands. Knowledge of Papiamentu or Caribbean English is an advantage.

Applications for Literature Caribe can be submitted on a rolling basis. Therefore, there is no standing committee; advisors are asked to provide individual written recommendations.
