Mirjam van Houten

Friesland-born Mirjam van Houten (1977) spent years working as a journalist, copywriter and website content manager before moving to a full-time career as a children’s book author and illustrator. She made her debut in 2016 with the 7+ book Tije, which was nominated for the IBBY Honour List. Her second children’s book, By Beppe útfanhûs, was released in 2021 and translated into Faroese, Ladin and North Frisian. Her third book, Jelle en juf (2022), won the Simke Kloostermanprijs award for Frisian-language literature. Her fourth book, It Grutte Pake & Beppe Foarlêsboek, was released in 2023 and her fifth, Anton yn it museum, in 2025.
