Peirene Stevns Prize 2024

27 November 2023

Attention translators: the Peirene Stevns Prize 2024 is now open for translators from Dutch to English. The prize is part of Peirene Press, an independent publisher of new voices and stories from across the world, publishing books from 25 countries and 20 different languages. This year’s prize is aimed at emerging translators from Dutch to English.

Entrants are invited to translate a sample from Zee Nu by Eva Meijer (Uitgeverij Cossee, 2022), a novel about rising sea levels which is equal parts lyrical, thrilling and satirical.

The winner receives a £5,200 commission to translate the full novel, a mentorship with International Booker Prize winning translator Michele Hutchison, and a translation retreat in an 18th century mill house in the foothills of the French Pyrenees.

The 2024 judges are Michele Hutchison, Haico Kaashoek and Paul Vincent. Entries are judged anonymously and submissions close on 4th March 2024.
