Marije Tolman

Marije Tolman (b. 1976) studied graphic and typographical design at the Koninklijke Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten (Royal Academy of Fine Arts) in The Hague. Her picture books have been published in more than ten different countries.

Children's books

Schattig (Cute) was selected as Picture Book of the Year in 2008 by the Flemish children’s and young people’s reading jury, was nominated for the Kinderboekwinkelprijs (children’s bookshop prize) and received a Leespluim award in 2007. De Boomhut (The Tree House), a picture book that Marije made together with her father Ronald Tolman, won the Bologna Ragazzi Award 2010. De Boomhut was shortlisted for the Gouden Uil Jeugdliteratuurprijs, was awarded the Gouden Penseel (best illustrated children’s book of the year) at the Rijksmuseum and won the Troisdorfer Bilderbuchpreis 2011. It was also nominated for the USBBY Outstanding International Booklist in the USA.
