Dirk Weber
Dirk Weber (b. 1965) is a designer and copywriter by profession and writes literature in his spare time. He tries something different every time, so his small body of work is exciting and unpredictable.
His debut Choose Me! (2005, Vlag en Wimpel winner) and the later Dove Liquorice (2008, Zilveren Griffel winner) are playful and literary in tone, while Him or Me (2010) is a chilling thriller for teens. The Magician, the Goat and I (2014) won the Thea Beckman Prize for historical books for young readers.

Choose me!
After the death of her parents, Fien lived with her strict grandmother for a while, but now she’s at the YIN home for ‘young ladies in need’. She doesn’t like it there at all and hopes that someone will come along one day and want to take her home. But the people always choose nicer, more easy-going girls. She finds consolation in her talent for drawing, turning all of her sadness and doubts into magnificent pictures, which form a sort of illustrated diary.
The Magician, The Goat and I
Camiel and Joris Roossen’s father is a magician. Or that’s what he claims. It’s certainly true that he’s always away from home. Once every couple of weeks he sends them a funny letter about his adventures, which Camiel reads out to his brother.
Him or Me
Philip gets onto the wrong metro train and ends up in some suburb, where he discovers that he has a double, a boy who looks eerily like him: Olaf. But Olaf behaves very differently than Philip. Philip is a decent guy, who lives with his parents in a posh house, in the wealthy south of Amsterdam. Olaf lives with his divorced mum in a shabby flat in the north of the city. He spends most of his time out on the streets and is always short of cash. He’ll do whatever it takes to get it.
