Who we are

The Dutch Foundation For Literature has the task of supporting writers and translators, and of promoting Dutch literature abroad. It invests in the quality and diversity of literature through grants for writers, translators, publishers and festivals, and contributes to the production and distribution of Dutch and Frisian literature at home and abroad.

The Netherlands and Flanders Guests of Honour Gothenburg Book Fair 2027

Gothenburg Book Fair proudly unveils its latest prestigious Guests of Honour for the 2027 edition of the Book Fair: Flanders and the Netherlands. With the Leipzig Book Fair having recently highlighting this vibrant region, the organisers of Gothenburg Book Fair are thrilled to introduce it to a Nordic audience, a couple of years ahead. The announcement, made at Leipzig Book Fair, was accompanied by the presence of Book Fair Director Frida Edman, who participated in a signing event.

The Netherlands named Guest of Honour at Turin International Bookfair 2025

The Netherlands will be Guest of Honour at the Salone Internazionale del Libro Torino: Italy’s largest book fair, and one of the most important in Europe. During the 37th edition, the Netherlands will showcase its literature and culture to the Italian audience. The announcement, made at the 2024 bookfair, was accompanied by the presence of Romkje de Bildt, managing director of the Dutch Foundation for Literature and Dutch Ambassador Willem van Ee.

Alfred Schaffer writer in residence in Amsterdam

Dutch-Aruban poet Alfred Schaffer will be staying at the Amsterdam Writers Residency from May 1st to June 14th, upon invitation by the Dutch Foundation for Literature and Poetry International, where he will perform during the annual poetry festival.

Anne Thompson Melo wins Peirene Stevns Translation Prize 2024

Translator Anne Thompson Melo has been elected as the winner of the Pereine Stevns Translation Prize 2024. This year, the prize was aimed at emerging translators from Dutch to English. Anne Thompson Melo will receive a translation commission. The prize was supported by the Dutch Foundation for Literature, the Centre of Expertise for Literary Translation and Martha Stevns.
