Text is always central in her work, but she moves between a range of different forms. In the autumn of 2021, Lisa Weeda made her literary debut with Aleksandra, about her Ukrainian grandmother and her fraught family history. Three months later, Russian tanks crossed the Ukrainian border and the conflict escalated. To better understand this torn country, stuck between East and West, many people reached for Weeda’s work. Aleksandra was nominated for two literary prizes and came out in seven languages.
