Forugh Karimi

Forugh Karimi (b. 1971) is an Afghan-Dutch writer, translator and psychiatrist. At the age of twenty-five she fled to the Netherlands, together with her husband.

She studied medicine and works as a psychiatrist and psychotherapist. Karimi has written many articles and essays, both in Farsi and Dutch. She has also translated work by Joost Zwagerman and Martinus Nijhoff, among others. In 2022 Karimi published her first book, The Mothers of Mahipar, which was awarded the Hebban Debut Prize.
