Maartje Wortel will stay as a writer in residence at the Van Eyck Academy in Maastricht for a period of two months. The writer in residence programme is a joint initiative of the Dutch Foundation for Literature and the Van Eyck Academy.
Maartje Wortel studied at the Rietveld Art Academy in Amsterdam. In 2007 she won the Write Now! competition for literary talent. Her stories have been published in Passionate, De Brakke Hond and De Gids and she wrote columns for NRC Handelsblad. She made her debut with Dit is jouw huis in 2009, acollection of short stories for which she received the Anton Wachter Prize in 2010. her first novel Half mens (Half-Human) was nominated for the BNG New Literature Prize. Her third book, IJstijd, was published in January 2014.
