While launching a new edition of Poezie op het draagbare scherm (Poetry on the screen), the Dutch Foundation for the Visual Arts and the Dutch Foundation for Literature jointly invited Rita Raley as writer/artist in residence.
Rita Raley is Associate Professor of English at the University of California Santa Barbara. Her primary research interests lie at the intersection of digital media and humanist inquiry, with a particular emphasis on cultural critique, artistic practices, and language. Her book, Tactical Media, a study of new media art in relation to neoliberal globalization, has been published by the University of Minnesota Press in its “Electronic Mediations” series. Her most recent publications include the co-edited Electronic Literature Collection, Volume 2, which contains an international state of the art overview of electronic literature including works by the Dutch poets & artists Rozalie Hirs & Harm van den Dorpel and K. Michel & Dirk Vis.
Raley will hold a key-note lecture at December 9 & 10 at the ELMCIP conference Digital poetics and the present, organised by Yra van Dijk at the University of Amsterdam. She will also give a few workshops in December and will host an evening on digital literature for a general audience in Perdu (Amsterdam) on Saturday December 10: Aesthetic strategies as critical interventions.
