Bart Koubaa visits Amsterdam

1-31 March 2010

In the past, Bart Koubaa has left Ghent to live in Andalusia and Firenze, but in March 2010 he will spend a month in Amsterdam to be closer to his Dutch publisher Querido and to concentrate on his new novel M.

His residency is part of an annual exchange with Het Beschrijf in Belgium. The Dutch writer who was invited to the residency in Brussels is Fouad Laroui.

Bart Koubaa was born in 1968 in Eeklo (Belgium). He studied Arabic language and literature at Ghent University and film & photography at the Royal Academy for Fine Arts in Ghent where he currently is a guest lecturer. In the eighties Koubaa was a member of the rock band Ze Noiz and as a singer he wrote lyrics for four different albums. After this musical episode he worked as a designer and exhibited his photographical work in galleries at home and abroad.

Koubaa’s fourth novel De Leraar (2009) was recently published by Querido. He was awarded the ‘Vlaamse Debuutprijs’ for his literary debut Vuur (2000). Koubaa also writes short stories and theatre monologues.
