From Friday the 8th untill Friday the 15th of July, the West Cork Literary Festival will take place in the town of Bantry in Ireland. As part of New Dutch Writing, an initiative of the Dutch Foundation for Literature, Dutch writers and translators will also be present, including Rodaan al Galidi, Michele Hutchison, Marijke Schermer, Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer and Miek Zwamborn.
During the festival at the Bantry Bay, Irish and international writers will give various masterclasses, workshops and lectures. There are also interviews, book presentations and other events. Writers Zadie Smith, Colm Tóibín and Áine Ní Ghlinn will headline the festival, among others.
Dutch writers Rodaan al Galidi, Marijke Schermer, Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer and Miek Zwamborn will present their work at various locations during the festival. Michele Hutchinson, who has translated the work of Pfeijffer and Zwamborn into English, will speak with the authors and will also host a workshop in Poetry Translation.
New Dutch Writing
New Dutch Writing is an initiative of the Dutch Foundation for Literature. With this large-scale promotional campaign, the Foundation for Literature wants to introduce new generations of Dutch authors to the United Kingdom and Ireland. The campaign also draws attention to literary translation. New Dutch Writing launched in July 2019 and includes over 70 author events at a range of festivals and literature venues.
