Dutch poet Roberta Petzoldt has been selected by the Dutch Foundation for Literature and the Jan van Eyck Academy for a 3-month working period as writer in residence at this postgraduate art academy in Maastricht. The residency is intended to offer Dutch authors (working on their second or third book) an international environment to further develop their talents and work.
Since graduating from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Roberta Petzoldt has developed into a transdisciplinary artist. She works as a poet, performer, actress, and visual artist. She has played two leading roles in feature films by Eddy Terstall. Of which Meet me in Venice was awarded The World Cinema Award. She received the Best Actress award at the Woodstock film festival of 2015. Petzoldts first collection of poetry, Vruchtwatervuurlinie (literally: amniotic fluid line of fire) was published by van Oorschot and won her the Cees Buddingh’ Prize for the best poetry debut of the year. In her performances she often collaborates with musicians and light projections. In her solo performances she developed a style in which she uses a loop sampler to make her poems into spatial sound pieces.
Both Roberta Petzoldt and the previous writer in residence Iduna Paalman will take part in the public Open Studios from June 24-26, 2022: every year during Open Studios, all doors of the Jan van Eyck Academie are open for three days on end. The participating artists, designers, architects, curators, and writers present their work in their studios, the public spaces, labs and gardens of the academy.
