Harmen van Straaten at Cambridge Literary Festival

On Tuesday 30 March at 11 am, children’s author and illustrator Harmen van Straaten and translator Laura Watkinson will introduce his book Hey, who’s in the loo? at the online Cambridge Literary Festival. This event is part of New Dutch Writing, a campaign of the Dutch Foundation for Literature.

Join Harmen van Straaten, the award-winning author and illustrator from the Netherlands, as he talks about and draws from his best-selling book, Hey, who’s in the loo? Its award-winning translator, Laura Watkinson, will read from the book, as Harmen reflects on the magic of seeing his Dutch words transformed into amusing English rhyme that is sure to enchant readers young and old. And don’t forget to grab your pens and paper so that you can join in with Harmen’s illustrations!  

This event will be broadcast on 30 March, and will be available to buy and watch on demand for 1 week, until 6 April. Single event ticket costs £6.00, or £15.00 for the all-inclusive Children’s Festival Online Pass. More information & online tickets available through cambridgeliteraryfestival.com.

Harmen van Straaten is an award-winning author and illustrator from the Netherlands. He has illustrated over 400 books and has been published worldwide. His work has brought accolades that include a BIB Golden Apple and an IBBY, to name but two. Having studied Law and got bored, Harmen returned in 1987 to what he enjoyed best, illustration, and hasn’t looked back since!  

Laura Watkinson is a highly acclaimed and award-winning translator. A passion for children’s literature led her to found the Dutch chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. Originally from the UK, Laura now lives and works in Amsterdam.
