The Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIAS) and the Dutch Foundation for Literature invite applicants for the position of writer in residence. The position is tenable at NIAS in Amsterdam from 1 February 2022 until 31 June 2022.
The position of writer in residence is intended for fiction and non-fiction writers whose work is or will be translated into the Dutch language. The position is especially suitable for finishing a work in progress. Each year, NIAS invites around 50 carefully selected scholars, journalists and artists, both from within and outside the Netherlands, to its centre in Amsterdam to work on their curiosity-driven projects in a collaborative environment. Applicants who can show how they will benefit from working in an international community of scholars are most likely to succeed. If your new book is in any way related to Dutch history or current affairs this is of course a bonus.
The facilities offered include a comfortable office equipped with a personal computer connected to both local and external networks, use of all library services, and a limited amount of secretarial and editorial assistance. The position carries a monthly stipend and includes subsidized accommodation in a studio apartment in the city centre. The lingua franca at the Institute is English. This writer in residence programme is a cooperation between NIAS and the Dutch Foundation for Literature.

Applications containing a motivational letter, a project description (maximum 3 pages), the names and addresses of two professional referees (among whom your Dutch publisher), a curriculum vitae and a list of all (major) publications should be sent before March 15th 2021 to Fleur van Koppen.
