Babs Gons will be in Brazil from 15 to 21 October, where she will participate in the international literature festival FLUP in Rio de Janeiro. Part of the festival is the sixth edition of the Rio Poetry Slam, with a national and an international edition in each of which 16 women who bear traces of the African diaspora will compete against each other. In the international competition, Babs Gons will represent the Dutch spoken word scene.
Recently Gons won the global spoken word competition Slamovision! in Australia. UNESCO Cities of Literature from Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania entered videos of their biggest spoken word talents to compete against each other in this worldwide competition. Utrecht City of Literature was represented by winner Babs Gons, writer, performer and theatre producer. She set up the Poetry Circle Nowhere platform to bring together Dutch writing performers and performing writers. Gons can also be considered a spoken word pioneer and she regularly treads the boards herself with her own poems.
