The European Literature Prize 2019 will be presented on Sunday 3 November 2019, during the Crossing Border festival in The Hague. The prize has been awarded to Austrian author Arno Geiger and translator Wil Hansen for the novel Onder de Drachenwand. The prize rewards the best contemporary European novel that was published in Dutch in the previous year. The prize consists of a cash prize of € 10,000 for the writer and € 5,000 for the translator. All are welcome to the award ceremony.
The award ceremony will take place from 2.30 p.m. to 4.15 p.m. in Studio B in the Central Library in The Hague.
The programme, led by host and jury chairman Abdelkader Benali:
- Welcome, award ceremony and acceptance speech
- Performances by musician Alfian Emir Adytia and actress Betty Schuurman
- Arjan Peters interviews Arno Geiger and Wil Hansen
Afterwards there will be an opportunity to raise a glass to the winners.

European Literature Prize
The European Literature Prize draws attention to contemporary novels written in a language originating from one of the countries of The Council of European Nations and their translation in Dutch. Every year the award is given to an outstanding novel from this language area with a prize for both the author (10.000 euro) and the translator(s) (5.000 euro).
