On 21 March, World Poetry Day, Radna Fabias was awarded the Herman de Coninckprijs for her debut collection Habitus. The Flemish prize is awarded annually to the best Dutch language poetry collection and consists of € 7.500.
The jury admired her vitalistic, innovative word power. "A talent who writes with a compelling rhythm, who uses repetition to subtly ask questions and who plays with all possible forms between prose and poetry."
Fabias already won the Awater Poetry Prize and the C. Buddingh' Prize for Habitus. This startling, existentialist collection deals with Curaçao, feeling at home, and her role as a (black) woman, immigrant and outsider. Habitus is also on the shortlist of the Grote Poezieprijs, one of the largest Dutch poetry prizes, consisting of € 25.000. The winner will be announced at the Poetry International Festival on 16 June.
