Bookstan Sarajevo

4-7 July 2018

From 4-7 July, the third annual Bookstan Literary Festival will take place in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Curator Geert Mak, with support from Mireille Berman of the Dutch Foundation for Literature, has organized a series of discussions on the theme of Borders and Boundaries in literature, culture, and politics.

Dutch and Flemish participants include Guido Snel, Frank Westerman, Griet op de Beeck, Saskia de Coster, Dubravka Ugresic, and Femke Halsema. Chris Keulemans will moderate several sessions, and Willemijn Lamp, programmer at the Read My World Festival in Amsterdam, will participate in a panel on the role and significance of international literary festivals.

This year’s festival features a number of international guests as well, including British author David Mitchell, American-Bosnian author Aleksandar Hemon, and American literary critic and Bookstan co-founder John Freeman. Bookstan will also host many local and regional publishers and authors, and present new books by Faruk Šehić, Zlatko Topčić, Selvedin Avdić, Olja Runjić, Dževad Karahasan, Tanja Stupar Trifunović, Senka Marić, Damir Pilić, and Emir Imamović.

Bookstan is made possible by support from the Dutch embassy and the Dutch Foundation for Literature.
