From Friday 25 May until Sunday 3 June the biennial Stripdagen Haarlem will take place, the longest comic book convention in northern Europe with fairs, exhibitions, lectures, workshops, masterclasses, music performances and theater and film screenings around comic strips and other cartoons. This year’s theme is ‘De Maakbare Mens - 200 jaar Frankenstein’ (‘The Feasible Man - 200 year Frankenstein’).
The main exhibition in 37HP, Platform for Arts, highlights the genesis of Mary Shelley’s famous book Frankenstein. On the basis of the original text, the story is retold using fragments from the numerous comics and illustrated versions that are available.
During the first festival weekend, on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 May, three fairs will take place: the Collectors Fair, the Antiquarian & Second Hand Fair and the Small Press Fair, which are organized in close cooperation with Het Stripschap.
Every edition of Stripdagen Haarlem, the organization asks a (famous) illustrator to design the house style of that year’s festival. This year it is the honor of Hans Klaver, also known as Schwantz. Next to the house style, he will design the bottle for the Strip Beer, which was specially brewed for the festival.
In addition to lectures on the festival theme, many cartoonists will be present at the festival to tell about their work, among who the award-winning Canadian cartoonist Guy Delisle.
