On Sunday 18 and Monday 19 February, as part of the Berlin International Film Festival 2018, Books on Screen will take place: a series of meetings between Dutch publishers and German film producers, and between German publishers and Dutch film producers.
The first German-Dutch networking moments for professionals from the publishing industry and the film industry were organized on the occasion of the Guest of Honour programme at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2016 and the Netherlands Film Festival. These meetings initiated new collaborations and co-productions between Dutch and German publishers and filmmakers which hopefully will lead to many beautiful film adaptations.
Dutch participants at this year’s event include de Bezige Bij, Singel Uitgeverijen, Lebowski Publishers, Shared Stories, BosBros, NL Film, IJswater Films, Family Affairs, Submarine, and Column Film, amongst others. German attendees include film producers Fox International Productions Germany, Deutsche Columbia Pictures Filmproduktion, Real Film, and NiKo Film, as well as publishing companies Elisabeth Ruge Agentur, Hoffman @ Campe Verlag, Literarische Agentur Kossack, and Agentur Kroll. Books on Screen’s programme offers them a chance to come together to initiate new potential film adaptations, for instance at the so-called Breakfast Meetings and the annual ‘film rights session’ in collaboration with the Frankfurt Book Fair.
Books on Screen, hosted by ‘Books at Berlinale’ as part of the Berlinale Co-Production Market, will take place at the Berlinale for the first time this year. The event is supported by the Dutch Foundation for Literature, the Dutch embassy in Berlin, Dutch Culture (Centre for international cooperation), and the Netherlands Film Fund. The Film Fund also signed for the organization of the programme.
