Every two years IBBY publishes the Honourlist, a list of high-quality children’s and youth books published in IBBY’s more than seventy-five countries. The national sections of IBBY nominate one book for each category that excels in text, illustrations or translation.
For the category ‘translators’, Tjalling Bos is nominated for his excellent translation of the book Naar de top of Dan Gemeinhart (published by Lemniscaat).
For the first time, IBBY-Nederland also presents a translator in Frisian and that is Martsje de Jong for her translation De GFR (by Roald Dahl, issued by Regaad Utjouwerij).
For the category ‘illustrators’ Ludwig Volbeda is nominated for his special illustrations in De vogels (with text by Ted van Lieshout, Leopold publishing house / Gemeentemuseum The Hague).
In the category ‘authors’ the nomination goes to Annet Schaap for her impressive debut Lampje (published by Querido).
Since The Netherlands is bilingual, a Frisian book can also be presented for the category ‘authors’ in addition to a Dutch book. That is Mirjam van Houten this year for her book Tije for which she also provided the illustrations (published by Afûk).
The books of the honorary list will be presented at the International IBBY conference that will take place in Athens next year.
