In January and February American author Elisa Albert will be working and living as a writer-in-residence in Amsterdam, upon invitation by the Dutch Foundation of Literature.
Elisa Albert (1978) made her debut into literature with a highly praised with a collection of short stories How this Night is Different, followed by the gripping novels The Book of Dahlia and After Birth, all published by Free Press. Dutch translations of her work have been published by Nieuw Amsterdam. Albert teaches Creative Writing at Columbia University, where she herself has graduated.
She is currently working on the translation of Brief aan mijn moeder (Letters To My Mother), an autobiographical novel by Dutch journalist, writer and interviewer Ischa Meijer. For the American edition, introductory essays will be written by Connie Palmen, Ischa Meijer’s children, and Arnon Grunberg. During her residency she will also work on her fourth novel, in which the life and music of Amy Winehouse will play a major role.
