Anna Woltz wins LUCHS-award

8 July 2015

The German newsmagazine Die Zeit and Radio Bremen have awarded Anna Woltz the July LUCHS-award for her young-adult novel Meine wunderbar seltsame Woche mit Tess, translated in German by Andrea Kluitmann and published by Carlsen Verlag.

The original Dutch novel Mijn bijzonder rare week met Tess (My especially strange week with Tess) appeared at Querido Kind. The German edition was published with a grant from the Dutch Foundation for Literature. The German judges referred to the book as:

an almost perfect example of an exciting and entertaining story which is closely related to the experiences and feelings of children. The story is not an easy read, but continuously challenges the reader. With all its humour and subtlety the book is nevertheless engaging and of a serious strength, by which it overshadows most children’s books.

On Thursday 9th of July at 15:20, Radio Bremen will pay attention to the book. The programme can be heard online here.

Each month Die Zeit and Radio Bremen award the LUCHS-award for children’s and young-adult books. The jury is made up of Die Zeit-editor Katrin Hörnlein, translator Birgitte Jakobeit, author Hartmut El Kurdi, art historian Maria Linsmann and Radio Bremen-editor Anja Robert.
