Writer in residence programme 2015

Nir Baram as WiR in Amsterdam

1 Sep-16 October 2015

From September to mid-October Israeli author Nir Baram will be the writer in residence at Spui in Amsterdam, upon invitation of the Dutch Foundation for Literature.

Nir Baram (Jerusalem, 1976) is seen as the greatest literary talent of Israel. With Goede mensen (Good People) he made his international breakthrough. In September 2015, during his stay in Amsterdam, the new ambitious novel Wereldschaduw (World’s Shadow) will be published by De Bezige Bij, in the translation of Sylvie Hoyinck. The novel focuses on the immense power of capitalism and its consequences for the individual. Wereldschaduw is Barams fifth novel and was a direct bestseller in his home country. In 2014 the Sapir Prize has nominated this title.

In 2012 the Dutch translation by Hilde Pach Goede mensen was released, in which Israeli Nir Baram (1976) describes the dubious motivations of two collaborators during the second world war. The novel received exceptionally good reviews and sold 20.000 copies in the Netherlands and Flanders.

Text Publishing will publish the English translations of novels by Nir Baram; Good People is due fall 2016 and World shadow will appear in 2017.
