Miek Zwamborn

Together - Along Mull's Coastline

A literary journey into the wildest reaches of an unspoiled island

Surrendering herself to the elements, immersing herself in oral history, walking, swimming and foraging, Zwamborn settles into her new home on the southern tip of the Isle of Mull. Through poems, letters, essays, drawings, maps and photographs, she guides the reader past volcanic eruptions, millennia-old bogs, abandoned farms, Celtic rainforests, fluctuating mudflats, and an all-encompassing sky. Zwamborn comes into contact with a multitude of organisms and sketches their fascinating connections. She writes about the power of nature, enthralling sea creatures, twisted oaks and beached whales, as well as the complex relationships between the islanders.
