Joep Leerssen

Joep Leerssen is Royal Netherlands Academy Professor of European Studies at the University of Amsterdam. His studies on the connection between literature, historical awareness and nationalism have won him an international reputation. He was awarded the 2008 Spinoza Prize (Holland’s premier academic award) and held the Erasmus Lecturership at Harvard in 2003. His National Thought in Europe was shortlisted for the 2007 European Book Prize and his Remembrance and Imagination was one of the Times Literary Supplement’s Books of the Year in 1996.
