Henk Pröpper benoemd tot directeur Nederlands Letterenfonds
Gisteravond benoemde het bestuur van het Nederlands Letterenfonds Henk Pröpper tot directeur. In overleg met het ministerie van OCW wordt gezocht naar een nieuwe bestuursvoorzitter.
Begin dit jaar verenigden de twee grootste letterenfondsen van Nederland zich in één nieuw fonds: het Nederlands Letterenfonds (Dutch Foundation for Literature). Het bestuur stelde in zijn allereerste vergadering schrijver en criticus Henk Pröpper (1958) aan als directeur. Pröpper was sinds 2003 directeur van het Nederlands Literair Productie- en Vertalingenfonds en is bestuursvoorzitter van het SICA; daarvoor leidde hij o.a. het Institut Néerlandais in Parijs.
Het komende jaar is voor het Nederlands Letterenfonds een overgangsjaar. Voorlopig opereert het fonds vanuit de twee bekende adressen: de Huddestraat en het Singel. Om het organisatorische en fysiek samengaan van beide afdelingen te realiseren, heeft het bestuur Greetje van den Bergh gevraagd om tijdelijk de leiding van de Huddestraat-afdeling op zich te nemen. Van den Bergh (1947) was sinds april 2009 waarnemend directeur van het Fonds voor de Letteren en vervulde en vervult een groot aantal bestuurlijke functies in het culturele veld, o.a. als Algemeen Secretaris van de Nederlandse Taalunie.
Achtergrond voor de fusie is de ambitie om de kwaliteit en diversiteit van de literatuur te bevorderen in een omgeving die snel verandert en waar de pluriformiteit onder druk staat. Eén groot letterenfonds is hiertoe beter in staat dan twee aparte fondsen.
Het Nederlands Letterenfonds blijft zich op volle kracht inzetten voor de ondersteuning van schrijvers en vertalers en de promotie van de Nederlandse literatuur in het buitenland. Dankzij de steun van het ministerie van OCW zal het zich daarbij versterkt gaan richten op internationaal vertaalbeleid, non-fictiebeleid en nieuwe ontwikkelingen in literatuur en boekenvak.
Tjalling Halbertsma (voorheen bestuursvoorzitter van het FvdL) en Klaas de Vries (voorheen bestuursvoorzitter van het NLPVF) bekleden voorlopig samen het voorzitterschap.

Henk Pröpper appointed director of Dutch Foundation for Literature
Yesterday evening the board of the Dutch Foundation for Literature appointed Henk Pröpper as its director. A new chairman of the board will be sought in consultation with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.
At the start of this year the two largest literature foundations in the Netherlands united to form a single organization, the Dutch Foundation for Literature (Nederlands Letterenfonds). At its first meeting, the board appointed writer and critic Henk Pröpper (b. 1958) as director of the foundation. Pröpper has been Director of the NLPVF since 2003 and is chairman of the SICA; his previous posts include Director of the Institut Néerlandais in Paris.
This year will be a transition period for the Dutch Foundation for Literature. Until further notice it will continue to operate from its two familiar addresses on the Huddestraat and the Singel. To facilitate the merger both organizationally and physically, Greetje van den Bergh has been asked to take responsibility for the running of the Huddestraat section. Van den Bergh (b. 1947) has been Interim Director of the Fonds voor de Letteren since April 2009 as well as holding a large number of managerial positions in the cultural sector, for example as General Secretary of the Dutch Language Union.
The background to the merger is a desire to promote the quality and diversity of literature, in an environment of rapid change in which diversity is increasingly under pressure. A single large literature foundation is better placed to realize this ambition than two separate foundations.
The Dutch Foundation for Literature will remain dedicated to supporting writers and translators, and to promoting Dutch literature abroad. Assistance from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science will enable it to act with renewed vigour in the fields of international translation policy, quality non-fiction (both Dutch and translated), and new developments in literature and the publishing profession.
Tjalling Halbertsma (formerly chairman of the board at the Fonds voor de Letteren) and Klaas de Vries (formerly chairman of the board at the NLPVF) will, until further notice, jointly occupy the chairmanship.
