The Translators’ House is an ideal base for translators wishing to do research for a translation project, to consult their author(s) or to meet publishers.

Our translations database provides information on more than 20,000 translated Dutch works, including both subsidized and non-subsidized literature (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, children’s and YA). The database offers access to the large collection of foreign translations which form the core of the Dutch Foundation for Literature’s library.

The Dutch Foundation for Literature extends subsidies to foreign publishers for translations of Dutch literature (fiction, non-fiction, poetry and children’s books), provided the translator is on the Foundation’s List of Approved Translators.

Schwob.nl brings quality literature from all points of the compass to the attention of Dutch readers, editors and publishers. There are important books that remain unknown to us, books we never hear or read about and that are unavailable in Dutch. Schwob.nl is a showcase website for these forgotten or undiscovered books. Schwob is created by translators into and out of Dutch, foreign publishers and editors, researchers, readers and critics.

A pamphlet for preserving a flourishing translation culture

‘Great translation by the way’. It is with off-hand comments like these that book reviewers typically dismiss the work of a translator - assuming, that is, that they mention the translator at all. Such cursory treatment makes painfully clear where translators stand in the literary pecking order: right at the bottom. At the request of five partners in the book sector, Martin de Haan and Rokus Hofstede have written a plea to set matters right and to give a central place to literary translation as a profession. The pamphlet was translated by Jane Hedley-Prole en S.J. Leinbach.
