Rodaan Al Galidi will be in Bali, Indonesia from 22 to 28 October, where he will participate in the international Ubud Writers Festival. His latest novel Hoe ik talent voor het leven kreeg will be published in January 2020 in English translation by Jonathan Reeder as Two blankets, three sheets by World Editions.
At the festival he will participate in several programmes: a reading session with several writers who will read in their mother tongue, a panel on multilingual writing and a session about refugee stories and seeking asylum.
Rodaan Al Galidi
Rodaan Al Galidi is a poet and writer. Born in Iraq, trained as an architectural engineer, he has lived in the Netherlands since 1998. Since as an undocumented asylum seeker he did not have the right to attend language classes, he taught himself to read and write Dutch. Al Galidi has published five novels and eight books of poetry in Dutch, and has been nominated for a number of prizes. His novel The Autist and the Carrier Pigeon (2009) was crowned with the prestigious European Union’s Literature Prize in 2011, the same year he failed his citizenship course.
